July & August Knitalong

Basic Sock  (in 2 gauges)
“The sock we return to again and again.”

Our July and August Knitalong project brings us back to basics with the Basic Sock by Churchmouse Yarns & Teas.

To compliment this tried and true classic sock pattern, we’ve selected Regia sock yarn for its beautiful color, durability and washability. Choose from Regia 4-ply for a pair of fingering weight socks or Regia 6-ply for thicker sport weight socks – it’s up to you!

Can’t decide on fingering or sport weight or just feeling ambitious? The warm weather is perfect for sock knitting, so if you’re up to the challenge, knit a pair in each weight!  If you finish your first pair before the deadline, we'll let you use your KAL coupon right away for the other weight.  When you finish your second pair by the deadline, you will receive another KAL coupon for a future KAL.

TNNA Inspiration

You may have heard buzz about TNNA in the shop or elsewhere in the knitting universe - TNNA organizes tradeshows for those in the needle arts industry to provide education, networking, shopping and peeks of new products. The show plays host to a variety of people in the knitting industry varying from designers, to yarn companies, to shop owners and everything in between.

Last week, we packed our bags and headed to the summer show in Columbus, Ohio. We're back and exhausted, but so very inspired!

Photography is not allowed on the show floor, so here's a peek from outside:

Check out the Blue Sky Alpacas blog for photos of their gorgeous booth! We met Katie - you may have seen her posts on the Blue Sky and Spud & Chloe blogs.  She is wonderful and an example of why Firefly Fibers is part of the Blue Sky Alpacas family!

The vendors outdid themselves this year with their booths! There was inspiration every few feet from the independent dyers, designers and yarn companies.

So... What does this mean for you? This means you can expect fabulous new items and classes at Firefly Fibers in the upcoming months. We are expanding some of our current yarn lines, adding new yarn lines, and there will be some great new accessory items. Sorry, you'll have to wait until the goodies arrive to know exactly what's in store for you. Keep an eye on our blog, facebook and twitter for updates. What I can say is that we are really excited and it will be well worth the wait!

We had fun, learned a lot during our 4 days of classes, shopping and networking and we hope you love what is on the horizon as much as we do.

YOU are the reason why we drove from Wisconsin to Ohio for inspiration!

Happy Knitting!

For more on our trip to TNNA, you can visit Alisa and Sarah's blogs over the next few days.

Ravelry Pattern Shop

We are excited! Why, you ask? Well, because we have a Ravelry pattern shop!

Over the last year, Alisa & Sarah have been working on designs for various Firefly Fibers shop samples and classes - until this week, our designs were only available in print format or in classes. Some of our customers prefer a PDF format and we have interest in our designs outside of our local area, so expanding our offering to Ravelry is pretty exciting for us and we hope it is for you, as well!

We currently have 10 designs available as PDF downloads in our Firefly Fibers Designs shop on Ravelry and we have both print and PDF versions available in the store.

Some of you may have purchased a pattern or taken a class using one of these designs, now's your chance to add your projects to Ravelry - we are excited to see your beautiful creations added to the Ravelry library.

Less than 24 hours after adding our patterns, our Capitol Square Market Bag steadily climbed up the Ravelry "Hot Right Now". It was fabulous to see it climb above Hitchhiker - which is a very lovely pattern and our shop sample in Crazy Zauberball is gorgeous so you really should see it and knit one for yourself...

This is what we saw on the afternoon of June 14th and it was very unexpected:
The red arrow, that's us! Firefly Fibers in the top 20, #11 to be exact!

This was an awesome beginning to our Ravelry pattern launch and much more exciting than we could have imagined! Sadly, our fame was short-lived with Capitol Square slowing moving out of the top 20 later in the day, but we sure enjoyed it while it lasted.

We're always clicking away and have more designs on the needles, be sure to keep an eye on us!
